Let's build a sweater.
Why I get the Anthropologie emails and catalogs, I don't t know. Well, I do know why I get them...it's because I requested them. My real "why" is why do I put that temptation and loveliness in my face each week when I know I can't afford the stuff?
A few weeks ago, I showed you the clutch that I want to make. Earlier this week, I fell in love with something yet again. It's The Rainier Cardigan.
I love it so much that I want to make it. But I don't know how to make it. I can guess how to make it. So, I joined the Anthropologie group on Ravelry so I could ask questions. I emailed Amanda, who is the one person I have seen do a "version" of a sweater (Bea) that she has seen... I'm asking her questions.
I have requested every knitting stitch book that I can from the library. If we look closely at the sweater (using Anthropologie's zoom capability on their website) I think we see a feather and fan pattern. And a simple lace. And is that moss stitch?
I've made a lot of sweaters, and I feel like I should be able to knit a version Rainier. But, I need help. And any help I get from all of you, I will share as I work through designing and knitting this sweater. Then maybe , just maybe, we'll have a pattern we can all use. Am I getting ahead of myself?
Let's build a sweater. We can do it.

I've got nothng sorry, but the sweater is pretty.

I'm no help at all. I have two friends I go to when I want something designed to look like another pattern. I don't even know where to begin, but I wish you well. And look forward to your progress & decoding!:) Good luck-and as my son would say, "May the force be with you." The knitting force I mean.;)

The top looks like it might be woven or linen stitch. Maybe if someone lives near a store they could go and take some pictures. I will be near a store in a couple of weeks and I will look for it.

I think I see the same details as you do, but not sure about the moss. Might be the large moss stitch (is that what it's called)? I love the sweater. If you come up with a pattern, I will totally knit it. Wonder what the gauge is like? Worsted, or DK/sport? I like it even better on the Anth website, buttoned.

Good luck!
I used to live near an Anthropolgie store, and they have the cutest things for the house too! The only things I ever got were ice cream bowls (pink ones!) and a frog door stopper. The whole store is TEMPTATION though!
Good luck with the sweater - I know nothing that would be helpful. But, I have great confidence in your ability to figure it out!

If anyone can do you can. And I do have faith in you because I can't wait to knit this once you figure it out!! I did come across a pattern for feather and lace.

It looks like the upper portion is just a 4 row pattern of 2 rows knit the knits and purl the purls, row 3 knit the purls and purl the knits, and row 4 knit the knits and purl the purls.
The bottom isn't a true feather and fan, the holes and decreases are oddly stacked. But it is a variation. And Feather and Fan would work just as well.
Great decrease detail at the armhole seam.

I feel the exact same way when the Anthropologie emails and mail catalogs show up. So many pretty things, so expensive, so tempting to recreate! I hope you get all the tips you need to make the Rainier, it's lovely.

You can do it! And then I will request a copy of your pattern! I love the tie.

The bottom of the sleeves and body do look like a feather and fan stitch pattern (can be found easily on the internet) and then the rest of the lacy part looks like the Mesh Pattern featured as one of the STitch of the Day stitches on Knitting Daily, excerpted (is that a word?) from The Harmony Guides. It is just a 4 row repeat over an odd number of stitches for the mesh pattern and looks pretty easy-let me know if you want the pattern (I think it is fine to share since it was featured as a Stitch of the Day at one point??) And I agree that the top looks like a moss or linen stitch. Just add all the pieces together and you'll get yourself that sweater :) How fun!

You go Lynne!! I will be right behind you :O) because that sweater looks wonderful. Wish I could help, but I have not clue how to figure it out. I am taking a class at Stitches in February so if nothing else I might have a tip or two by then

I'm sorry to have been out of contact so long, Lynne- we were on vacation. I LOVE this sweater. I'm sorry that I am absolutely no help. Even with a pattern I don't think I could do this as it is too advanced for me! But I hope you get the insight you need and cast on for it-- I have no doubt that you would do a beautiful job with it!

It's a beauty.
I know I've seen similar patterns before, just can't think where at the moment. It will come to me. Or I will come across it again. Or I could figure it out.
I'm so much help, yes?
