Last week, Julie tagged me for a book meme... to share what I'm reading right now. I must confess, I delayed writing this post, because I knew I would have some books coming that I will be reading within a few days, which I thought may be more "appealing" to the world of blog readers. What is on my list of books to read?
I either have these books, or they are ordered and on their way. Most of them are made known to me by my daughter Meghan. One of the most intimate things we share is our love of literature. My favorite moments ever are of she and I reading together. Very often, Meghan will call me at some odd hour, when I least expect it, and read to me from a book. We have laughed ourselves silly or cried together as she reads "just one more thing, Mom." I love to hear her voice sharing some words that she knows I will understand. I always take her recommendations, because she knows exactly what I like to read. And of course, one of my secret delights about knowing I will be recovering from surgery is the anticipation of reading some of the books she has recommended. And then calling her to read something back to her.
But, to get back to my confession, I will tell you the truth about what I'm reading right now. I am reading my Bible. From the Paul's letter to the Philippians. One of my goals is to become more deliberate in my spiritual growth. As I seek to become the woman God wants me to be, I know that I can only do that with the best self-help book I've ever read. I have some things to deal with, some places to uncover, some bondage to be freed from, and this is the only way I know that makes sense.
So, I leave you with the passage I just read this morning...
"I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret to being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength."
That is what I'm reading today. That is what I am trying to live today.

I agree the Bible is always the best book to read. I am reading mine and also Summer by Karen Kingsbury. Also I am trying to be content where I am at.

My Bible reading this morning was Exodus 17-19. I participate in the BREAD program which encourages you to read the entire Bible in a year. There's always something new to discover in the Bible. My day always goes better when it begins with my Bible reading.

I have been reading the Gospels.Starting in St.John.
Also in Matthew,I am amazed at the Dreams that came down to guide people,Starting with the wise men and Joseph.To save the Baby Jesus
So Gods plan would not be hindered.
I also have been reading in The Book of Esther.Great Books.
I got that Movie( One night with the King.)
Id like to read some of the Books you posted.

Did God pick this out just for me!!!! We are planning to build a new house and all those big dreams keep trying to move in on the responsible side of the brain! Contentment. Do I really need things to find it? No!

The Pillars of the Earth is a great book! If you enjoy it, you may also like Sarum. But you're already reading a great book. :)

Philippians is my favourite letter. Another wonderful passage, near the one you're reading, offers this excellent advice:
'Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.'
Both concepts are quite counter-cultural these days, sadly.

I've been trying to read my Bible every day. This will be the third year I'm working through "The Bible in One Year" (in other words, I'm 2 years behind!) I'm trying to read with a really open heart, instead of just reading to get the reading done!
I didn't realize Haven Kimmel had another book - I read A Girl Named Zippy and just loved it! I'm also curious about Walt Disney. I understand he was such a kind man (who would roll over in his grave if he knew what people had done to his company!)

I love Phillipians. And I so want to learn to be content. I really have cut way back on my scripture reading, and I believe it is showing. I think I got a little jaded from one study I was in for years. As far as what I am reading, I have 2 ready to go on my nightstand: QBQ (The Question Behind the Question) - recommended by my DH and because he's not a big reader I tend to really enjoy what he does read and recommend, and The Innocent Traitor - a historical novel of the story of Lady Jane Grey.

That learning to be content, to have an "it is well with my soul" attitude ALL the time, that is a wonderful quest. Sometimes it seems so elusive, though I know I'm making progress. I know it is true that He has equipped me and created this work for me to do. (But sometimes I wimp out. It's a good thing He loves me, huh?)

Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett is one of my all time favorite books. I've had it for years and see that it is an Oprah choice now. You won't be disappointed!
I'm re-reading an old book from my teenager collection called Baker's Hawk. It's a really good book written in the same tone as Where the Red Fern Grows, which is another of my very favorites.

I just finished Beth Moore's Get Out of That Pit and it was very good. It's not as in-depth as her studies, but has some wonderful healing words for those trying to overcome circumstances we should *not* be content with. :)
