Being inspired by this vintage Chanel suit
I've started the constuction of my own suit. I love the strong lines of each of these, and the high contrast of the fabric and trim.
I am using a Burda pattern with some modifications ( my muslin is complete!) I'll be using a Vera ivory boucle' from Fabric.com. Did anyone else take advantage of that incredible holiday sale? I ended up with a beautiful fushia wool flannel suiting, some really cool black/navy circle jaquard ( which is really more black, and not navy at all) , ivory jersey knit and purple voile...all at a ridiculously low price. Ridiculously. (I think it was 60% off the sale price?). I'll show and tell another time.
Anyway, I have several decisions to make about my classic suit.
First, if I should do a fusible knit interfacing. Or should I just line and semi-quilt? Or just interface the button band area? It has a collar, which I know will need stabilizing, but I do want this to be a sweatery-soft suit. I have to give it some more thought.
Second, trims... Will it be trimmed in classic tape? Tape with Braid? Just braid? Black loopy trim? Fabulous faux fur trim?
I'm set on the buttons, which I loved the minute I saw them.
So the construction will really be underway this weekend, along with a denim military style jacket that was shown in InStyle magazine this month:
I'll be using this pattern. I'd love to find some silver piping to trim the pockets. I have silver charmeuse to line it. Or, maybe I'll have to think gold. Hmmm... I'll have to think on that one.
One thing I know for sure, is that I will not be doing sets of breast pockets on either jacket...at least I think I know that for sure.
It looks like it will be a good stay-inside-make-stuff weekend. I hope you can do the same!
Oh, I like what you are making so much. I am adding that denim jacket to my list. Also, I agree with you on breast pockets.

Ooo, I can't wait to see your Chanel suit! I've never purchased from fabric.com even though I've had a big cartful of fabric from time to time. I just never end up ordering. It's fun to look and dream. :)

Your suit will be gorgeous!!!! For the military jacket, why don't you try to find some silver material (should be on sale now, I would think), some crochet cording (I always used the small cording for piping on the girls clothes---never bought piping already made as it was always too thick), and make your own. Happy sewing!!!!
