One of the reasons I love WNY is the variable weather... knowing in the heat of summer that in a few months you'll be shoveling 12" of snow. And visa versa. We just settle into the acceptance of that particular day's weather, and collectively complain that we can't stand it and convince ourselves that it's the most extreme heat/cold/humidity/snow/rain/drought we've ever had. But it keeps life interesting, right?
It's been a frigidly snowy few days here...cold like, Birdie's-paws-freeze-in-minutes-cold.
Actually, I haven't wanted to get my paws frozen either, so I've snuggled into knitting, and a warm fire. And a dog on my lap.
It's the kind of cold that demands knitting a large project which does double duty as a lap robe. Today, I went through the Unfinished Projects and reacquainted myself with Lady Eleanor. It didn't take me long to remember why entrelac and knitting with Noro Kureyon is as variable and interesting as our weather.
But earlier in the day, I decided I needed to tackle my circular needle mess.
Which I know drives my knitting friends CRAZY, and to be honest with you, drives me crazy, too. I have tried many means to corral these needles...my last attempt was using a zippered CD case, which didn't work out so well. In fact, it was such a disaster that it prompted me to think up a perfect, portable circular needle case that I could tuck into my knitting bag instead of hanging on the wall.
And so , my prototype:
It has three sections with four pockets each...that's 12 pockets which hold at least one set and up to three sets of circulars.
And an additional attached zippered pouch, which for me, holds my many sets of #8 circulars.
It folds into thirds, and closes with velcro.
I'm just so happy with it! I do need to figure a way to label the pockets with the needles sizes.
What do you think? Can you suggest any other ideas that would make this needle case even more perfect?
That is so doggone cute! You could sell those and retire a billionaire. Ok, maybe not a billionaire, but I bet there would be a market - if not for making them yourself, at least for the pattern. If it were mine, I'd like to have that little extra pocket detachable. Of course, that would also mean I could lose it!

I love it! You are so creative. I have all of mine (that I can locate) in a 3 ring binder that has clear sleaves. They are filed according to size and I have a couple extra pockets for stitch holders and markers etc.

This is too funny, I made a case very similar last night. For my second oldest daughter, she wanted something for all her small items for student teaching. We were on the same wave length, yours is great. I will put pictures up today or tomorrow.

Love the Birdie photo! Your needle case is great and is just right. The only thing I could think of to change is to put a handle on it but that's not really necessary.

Well Mine hangs on a hanger too. But it is just pockets with both sides open and I slip the needles through and both ends hang out both sides. (clear as mud?) I can see the needles this way. Bought it on etsy a little whiles back

Maybe you could embroider the size on each pocket?

I use those iron on sheets for dark colored tee shirts for projects like this. You can slip the sheet in your printer and cut the tags out.
When my kids went to sleep away camp, I made their name labels that I ironed into their clothes. I even ironed them on each sock! They stay on really well through the wash also.
